He is considered one of the most productive authors in this field. He, along with Leo Egghe, received the Derek de Solla Price Award in 2001. From 2007 to 2015, he was the seventh chairperson of ISSI. In 2015 he became co-editor-in-chief of the Journal of Data and Information Science. He publishes in the areas of information science, informetrics, bibliometrics, scientometrics, citation analysis, citation curves, citation data, citation generations, citation graphs, co-authorship, collaboration, publications, g-index, h-index, impact factor, information analysis, mathematical models, research evaluation, etc.
